Welcome to MutualAde

It's got the juice.

Hello, friends. I think it’s just about time for a little reintroduction.

I never wanted Fresh Hell to turn into a media criticism blog, and with The State of the News(TM), that was a slippery slope that I had already started to descend. It went from a place where I could vent my rage and funnel my hope into something that just felt more and more desperate every day, and not in a fun and sexy way. Just in a way that felt like one more kind of work, and a kind of work that wasn’t very useful.

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks thinking about how to make anything I do in this world a little more useful. So this is what I’ve got.

Welcome, friends, to MutualAde.

My plans for this space are simple: each day, I want to highlight a mutual aid fund or charity that needs help, just to give it a little more space outside of a post or repost. A little more room for the ask, or even just a little more visibility. For the first couple of days, I imagine, I’ll source these from Bluesky and Threads, and will continue to do that. However, I would also love to receive submissions, whether it’s your own fund or charity or just one that you think deserves more attention. I’d also like to feature small businesses, especially those owned by historically under-represented people, artists and artisans, and those who offer services that would be helpful to the communities and people who need help most.

I’ll be posting that alongside self-care advice, free services and resources, and of course, relevant news and info that we all should be aware of as informed citizens of the world. And don’t worry, I’ll include my recommendations for books and music, and Crumpet Corner isn’t going anywhere.

The world we’re in right now is weird and hard, so I just want to try to make it make a little more sense. To make it a little softer.

Thanks, friends.
